Starter armor can be sold to vendors, but only for 1 copper. Level-up reward gear has to be deleted, you can't do anything else with it. Armor you pick up as loot should be able to be sold to vendors, or you can right-click "sell on trading post" and then click instant sell to usually get a bit more than vendor price.
